Happiness comes from Personal Development
Defining happiness is harder than one might think. For a feeling that we all claim to have a keen grasp on, no one really has a single answer as to what happiness truly is. If you were to ask 100 people what the definition of happiness was, you would undoubtedly receive 100 different answers, and the reason is actually quite simple: Happiness is an experience that is solely unique to every person.
Much like beauty, happiness is in the eye of the beholder. There is no single definition of happiness because happiness looks different to each of us. To define happiness is to define your values, your joys, your goals, your beliefs, your comfort, your strengths, and your preferences. We all have our own dreams and our ideals, and our happiness is based almost entirely on those factors – there is simply no way around it.
Authentic Happiness Starts with You
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there are more than 350 million individuals dealing with depression and anxiety on a global scale. While there are many whose depression and anxiety are caused by a chemical imbalance, a significant percentage of those individuals are experiencing situational and circumstantial stress and sadness – but why? Why are so many people so unhappy?
...because they are trying to achieve a happiness that is not authentic to them.
Whether wanting to be as thin as the Instagram models, have the big, fancy career of a lawyer friend, live in a gigantic house like the ones on HGTV, or dressing a certain way to fit in with the other parents at the PTA meetings – many of us base our happiness on the actions and images of others. Alternatively, we also fail to find authentic happiness because we refuse to set boundaries and expectations with loved ones like spouses, bosses, or parents and inadvertently give up our happiness for theirs. Either way, the results are the same: Inauthentic happiness leads to very real sadness and frustration.
Discover, Experience, and Live Your True Happiness
Becoming happier takes work and self-reflection – which might sound a little daunting, but the results are tremendous. As you take the time to learn what you truly want to experience in life, what truly makes you happy, and what truly brings you comfort, you will discover new interests, aspects, and aspirations that you never knew were bubbling beneath the surface. Perhaps your happiness comes from leaving your 9-to-5 job and starting your own business, or finding financial security to buy your own home, or making enough money to stay home with your children, or moving across the country to be closer to family, or moving across the country to be further away from family, or an endless array of other possibilities. By discovering your true happiness, you are able to open the flood gates and start to truly live your life in a way that is authentic, powerful, and filled with joy.
Define your happiness, and know that we’ll be here to help you every step of the way.
