Aligning Your Intention With Your Attention

Dec 08, 2021

We currently live in a world where busy schedules and long to-do lists can leave you going from one hour to the next with little or no time to breathe. Lots of things around you also change almost every minute. This constant change and super busy schedules can make it more difficult for you to achieve your goals. Because you barely have time to think about your motivations deeply.

You may often feel out of control or like time is against you. Fortunately, you have the power to turn this around. This is because you can achieve the kind of life you desire by finding focus and aligning your attention with your intention to change your life meaningfully. Creating and maintaining a happy life requires you to address various needs amidst changing circumstances and busy schedules. These needs can be anything, from career and health needs to relationship and family needs. But when you actively set clear and positive intentions regarding your goals and desires, the reward can be mind-blowing. This is because you can make an extraordinary shift in how any task or meeting feels just by thoughtfully placing your attention.

When it comes to growth in any aspect of your life, there are two significant areas of awareness that you should prioritize:

  • Intention. This is where you set goals.
  • Attention. You have to be present in your intention before you can achieve your goals.

Unless you strike a balance between these two types of awareness, it is almost impossible to develop. The ability to align these two areas of awareness improves your ability to create a system that works best for you. This also significantly improves your ability to achieve/produce long-term life satisfaction and results.

However, you must first understand these 2 critical dimensions of consciousness before making changes for your growth. This understanding will boost your chances of success.

Intention

This involves actively setting desired goals for your future. The goal(s) can be about anything, from your health and wellness to your career growth and family life. Your intention is the dimension that moves you from where you currently are to where you want to be.

An intention is considered robust if it is a decision to have, do, or be something very important to you. This provides you with the energy and motivation you need to achieve your set goals.

One can liken your intention to a fire within you that lights up your path. If the fire is intense and bright, it makes it easier for you to find your life’s direction. This helps you to naturally develop your capabilities. However, your mind can be swayed easily by various things when you do not have an intention or when your intention is unclear. The sway can result from other people’s agendas and multiple possibilities for the future to various life events. This can cause your emotions to toss you around without setting a specific direction or working on any goal.

Fortunately, you can take better control of your life by setting a clear intention. This powerful intention can help you achieve a focused life where you nail your goals every time. A clear intention should include what you want to achieve, why, and how you intend to achieve the set goal. Here is an example of a clear intention: “I will boost my product by getting 8 hours of sleep every night. I only need to go to bed at 10 pm and wake up at 6 am daily.”

Knowing the value behind any goal you set gives you the motivational energy you need to take action.

Attention

This is something you “attend to” in the moment. When you pay attention, you can hear, see, and feel the world clearer than you would when you are not paying attention. This clarity significantly improves your depth of perception. It also allows you to clearly sense your inner value and vision.

Think back on a moment when you were profoundly present and genuinely paid attention, so much that you were completely caught up in the moment. You may have even felt a surge of gratitude. This moment can be anything from holding your newborn to enjoying a beautiful sunset. As you remember this moment of deep presence, try to pay attention to consciously enjoying the feeling of being fully alive. Pay attention to the deep awareness and meaning of the moment you’re connected to right now. See how gratitude surfaces.

You can access that feeling of deep awareness in almost every aspect of your life. The key to enjoying this state lies in identifying and understanding the value that your desired destination might have in your life. This understanding will provide you with the energy and motivation you need to stay present in your intention and actively work on making it come true.

How to align your attention and intention

It is relatively easy to set an intention. But not everyone can match their attention with their intention to achieve the set goals. The following tips can help you better align your attention with your intention to achieve the best outcome:

Declare your intention

Declaring your intention passionately strengthens your intentional frame of mind. This strong mind frame will help you take action more effectively and purposively to achieve your set goals. But you should thoroughly understand your reason for any purpose you set. With a big enough “why” directing your life towards that critical goal, organizing your attention every day becomes a lot easier.

Appreciate the moment and visualize your desired outcome

Genuinely appreciating the “now” and visualizing yourself already having the result will inspire you and make it easy for you to pay attention to the daily activities that will get you to your desired destination. With this approach, many helpful things will come naturally to you, including:

  • Setting goals
  • Implementing strategies, tasks, and action plans
  • Doing what it takes to get the support you require
  • Connecting with your ability to remain emotionally balanced and outcome-driven until you achieve your set goals.

For instance, if you consciously emulate peak performers, like great athletes, you will find yourself able to hold a long-term game and focus on the step-by-step approach to get to your desired destination.

CONCLUSION

Once you develop the habit of mindfully harmonizing your intention and attention, you will become practically unstoppable in creating the success and freedom you desire. Your natural state will be one of profound gratitude where you are fully present in the now and clear about your goals. You basically become your own wisdom guide and motivation source.
